722 Washington Blvd

Los Angeles, CA

722 Washington Blvd was designed to be an affordable housing complex for the residents of South Los Angeles, while also achieving Net-Zero Energy status. The building's form responds to the challenge by orienting the majority of the 50 housing units to face directly North, while the remaining units bend to trace the site boundaries. The resulting voids between the building's mass frames several interesting public spaces that vary in height, privacy and security. The site also features two levels of retail facing Washington Blvd as well as underground parking.

The computer program Sefaira was utilized to analyze real-time energy projections, and thus inform better design decisions to reduce energy and water use. 722 Washington was designed in my Third-Year at the USC School of Architecture.
